Urban Living Insights: Short-Term Rentals

Short-Term Rentals – Wednesday 26 April – The Stratford Hotel, Olympic Park, 20 International Way, Stratford, E20 1FD, London – TICKETS

Join your hosts Paul Stevens, editor, Short Term Rentalz, and Simon Lehmann, CEO, AJL Atelier, for this uniquely curated URBAN LIVING INSIGHTS event focused on the growth and investment into urban and holiday rentals.

BACKGROUND

In recent years, the short-term rental industry has transformed dramatically with the growth of new entrants backed by venture capital. Research from SkyQuest highlights that the global vacation rental market was valued at $75 billion in 2021 and is projected to grow to over $107 billion by 2028.

The pandemic merely accelerated existing macro-trends: desire for more space; longer stays; leisure and revenge travel; remote work, resulting in strong performance and an increasingly attractive, younger consumer demographic vs hotels.

VC financing has moved to the public capital markets

In the last 12 months, we have witnessed more than $2.4 million USD invested into STR / VR companies in funding rounds [including mega rounds for the likes of reAlpha, Le Collectionist, Patriot Family Homes, Hopper, Holidu etc], while the SPAC and IPO markets have somewhat dried up as firms weigh up their next move.

Compare that to the 12 months prior when over $4.5 billion USD of investment flowed into the sector in SPAC and non-SPAC / IPO transactions [source: ShortTermRentalz.com].

Further investment rounds, mergers and acquisitions are happening on a weekly basis, as companies scramble to scale with the support of both large and small investors like Blackstone, Certares, Thayer Ventures, KKR, Vitruvian Partners, Livingbridge, Highland Europe, Finch Capital, WestCap, Destination Capital, Lakestar and Henley Ventures to capitalise on growth opportunities driven by business model innovations, guest experience, technological improvements and more.

Join us as we explore the opportunities and challenges for investors, owners, operators / property managers, entrepreneurs and service providers in this dynamic and ever changing marketplace.
