Alterschool.travel confirms Gil as CEO

Spain: Online education platform Alterschool.travel, the training division of Madrid-based proptech company Alterhome, has announced Diego Gil as its new CEO.

Gil joins Alterschool.travel after spending 15 years working at Singularity University and WOBI in Europe, leading teams in custom content creation for television, online platforms and events, as well as holding positions at multinational firms including Cargil and Sony. The entrepreneur has also invested in a number of startups related to exponential technology.

In his new role, Gil will be responsible for promoting Alterschool.travel by specialising in training for tourism professionals and capitalise on the momentum and prospects for recovery in the short-term rental sector. The platform closed a €1.7 million financing round in February to accelerate its growth and improve the level of professionalism in the vacation rental sector.

Alterhome Group now operates under two heads: property management company Alterhome – which manages 240 homes and 25 tourist hotels – and Alterschool.travel – the online training school for hospitality professionals.

The group offers three different courses that target directors of hotels, hostels, apartments and vacation rentals who want to “continue improving and staying up-to-date, learn how to grow their businesses, and expand their knowledge base”.

  • Emprendetur Tech: A master’s qualification which includes classes given in 15-minute sessions by high-level executives from  CEHAT [Confederación Española de Hoteles y Alojamientos Turísticos]; Destinia; Vrbo / HomeAway, and Central American Caribbean Coast.
  • Vacation Rental Growth: Teaches students how to improve a tourist apartment business with the implementation of technology.
  • Revenues for Pros: Trains professionals and non-professionals in the variable management of hotel and apartment revenue, modifying rates based on occupancy and passenger flows to optimise the costs and expenses of the establishments.

Founded by siblings Chema and Patricia González in 2016, Alterhome – and now Alterschool.travel – began operating with a face-to-face format but has since developed into a 100 per cent online education programme, incorporating master’s qualifications taught by industry leaders from companies such as Airbnb, Booking.com, Vacasa and Homes & Villas by Marriott International.

Alterschool.travel is also the official school of FEVITUR, the Spanish Federation of Housing and Tourism Apartments, which represents more than 150,000 apartments.
