PointCentral acquires Doorport for smart management capacity

US: PointCentral, a property management solution, has acquired New York company Doorport, who focus on smart home systems.

This will allow PointCentral to add a unique smart intercom capability to their own smart property management solution.

The integration will help PointCentralโ€™s existing platform, powered by Alarm.com, continue unifying a variety of smart property management tools into a single suite. By adding intercom tech, owners will be able to convert both short and long-term lets into smart apartments with less effort.

Sean Miller, PointCentral CEO said: โ€œProperty managers and residents alike want a seamless curb-to-couch solution that conveniently and securely manages front door access for guests as well as service and package delivery. Doorport allows us to provide a complete range of solutions in a well-integrated comprehensive product suite.โ€

Doorportโ€™s initial business model was predicated on being able to convert antiquated intercom systems into smart, secure access systems. The ability for their technology to easily retrofit existing hardware means that any building, regardless of age, will be able to open its doors via smartphones.

Doorport CEO Ben Taylor noted: โ€œWe couldnโ€™t be more excited to join forces with PointCentral and Alarm.com. Weโ€™re confident that by bringing Doorport into the PointCentral platform, weโ€™ll be able to realize our mission of delivering a seamless access experience to renters and smart apartment residents across North America and beyond.โ€

With the acquisition, PointCentral is continuing their push towards a full IoT solution to help both managers and residents. The company will now be able to provide mobile device-initiated access to buildings and smart apartments, with the security features to match.

Businesses around the world are becoming increasingly integrated with smart technologies, such as property automation service Operto who most recently integrated with Hostfully. Market leader Airbnb has also partnered with noise monitoring tech firm Minut to introduce new smart noise detection technology in their rentals.
