TV home show host creates new vacation rental programme

Canada: The presenter of Canadian HGTV shows, Income Property and Buyers Bootcamp, Scott McGillivray, is hosting a new programme centred around vacation rentals.

The show, titled Scott’s Vacation House Rules, premiered on Sunday on HGTV’s Canadian network.

On each episode, McGillivray seeks out various vacation homeowners to help them find unique elements to market their hotels. McGillivray does this with fourteen years of experience in the space, focused on creating unique experiences for investment and long stay properties.

McGillivray told Hello Canada: “The short term vacation rental market right now is pretty lucrative, so I thought, ‘Why don’t we get on top of this and show people how to do it properly?’ There’s a lot of people attempting to do it, but they’re not doing a fantastic job.”

The host also believes that the programme and the vacation rental market will undergo a major boom after the current global pandemic. He anticipates that smaller hospitality properties will help relieve the travel anxiety created by the pandemic.

He added: “Driving two hours from your house and spending a week with you and just your family at a beautiful property with lots of fun things to do, seems like probably the first best reality that we can expect this summer.”

McGillivray also hopes that his show will inspire homeowners to convert their own properties into vacation rentals once the pandemic is over. He has been engaging with his own DIY projects in quarantine as a way to get closer with his family and to keep himself busy in the meantime.
