Spain: Spain’s Consumer Rights Ministry has flagged a further 54,728 Airbnb listings for breaching national regulations, bringing the total number of ads targeted in its enforcement campaign to almost 120,000.

The ministry said the flagged listings failed to display valid tourism license numbers or provide full property owner details, both of which are required under Spain’s tourism laws.

Airbnb has already removed 65,935 listings following an earlier order issued in May, which was upheld by a Madrid court in June after the platform appealed the directive.

The latest enforcement action is part of a broader crackdown on illegal tourist rentals, which officials say contribute to rising rents and housing shortages in major cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, and Palma de Mallorca.

Consumer Rights Minister Pablo Bustinduy said the measures were necessary to ensure compliance and support housing availability for residents. The ministry has also introduced a new reporting requirement for Airbnb, obliging the company to share detailed data on its listings with Spanish authorities on a monthly basis.

The crackdown comes amid widespread anti-overtourism protests across Spain and follows additional policy proposals, including a potential 21 per cent VAT rate on short-term rentals.
