US: Expedia Group and demand and data intelligence firm PredictHQ have agreed to a deal which would see predictive data for sports tourism integrated into Expedia’s operator management platform.

New Zealand-based PredictHQ will give Expedia’s Partner Central verified event signals and predictive demand intelligence. Expedia Group’s lodging partners will be able to utilise demand data to adjust and anticipate shifts in sports-related tourism.

The company’s forecasts estimate travellers to Men’s FIFA World Cup host cities will spend $8.1 billion on accommodation, food and beverage and ground transportation. Accommodation spending alone is expected to rise by $2.2 billion to $4.8 billion.

Particular North American host cities may see extraordinary rises in tourism spending — PredictHQ claims Arlington, Texas could see a 135 per cent year-over-year increase, constituting $562 million in spending. The Dallas-area city will host England, Argentina, the Netherlands and Japan as well as a semifinal match.

The firm said Foxborough, Massachusetts could see an even larger tourism spending jump of 161 per cent. Outside Boston, the city will play host to countries including England, France, Scotland and Ghana.

World Cup-related flights have also seen a boom. Expedia Group found four routes with four-digit increases: UK and Japan to Dallas and Brazil-Philadelphia and Germany-Houston. Japan-Dallas is up almost 2,000 per cent.

Accommodation operators on Expedia’s platform will have access to that data and more. Expedia said Partner Central users will be able to respond immediately to data.

“Major global events or groupings of harder-to-track, smaller events both create highly concentrated and fast-moving demand patterns that traditional forecasting models and AI systems lack the real-world context to detect,” PredictHQ CEO Campbell Brown said. “Demand does not move in straight lines; it responds to what is happening in the world every day. By partnering with Expedia Group, we are embedding this trusted, explainable context directly into decision-making, enabling travel providers to anticipate demand shifts earlier and capture revenue that would otherwise be missed.”

“What makes this powerful is how we connect predictive intelligence directly to commercial action,” Expedia SVP Susan Spinney said. “We’re not just identifying demand — we’re enabling partners to respond immediately in Partner Central, whether that’s adjusting strategy, increasing visibility through TravelAds, or targeting the right domestic and international travelers at the right time. It’s about turning foresight into measurable growth.”
