Berlin: SAS EUROPE RECHARGE 2019, which will be held in Berlin from 22-23 January, will feature a short-term rental debate session.
The International Hospitality Media-led event will include a debate, entitled โThe end of alternativeโ, with the lead motion of โPrivate accommodation is transforming global accommodationโ.
The session, which is being hosted by IHM CEO Piers Brown, will see two proposers, The Homelike founder, Dustin Figge, and a to-be-confirmed HomeToGo representative, propose the aforementioned motion, while Marriott Internationalโs VP for International Hotel Development, Markus Lehnert, and Oakwood managing director, Dean Schreiber, will oppose the motion.
It will take place on the second day of RECHARGE, which will be held at Colonia Nova on Thiemannstraรe 1 in the German capital from 3pm.
RECHARGE is primarily a two-day serviced apartment, apart-hotel, extended stay and short term rental business event, which will bring together a prestigious collective of 140 leaders and delegates. Its aim is to make long-lasting connections and encourage a new way of thinking by challenging the business status quo for forward thinking hospitality leaders with purpose.
IHM CEO Piers Brown said: “The growth of short term rental offerings is clearly contributing to more consumer choice and โconvergenceโ across many hospitality offerings like hotels and serviced apartments. The debate is light-hearted, but with a serious message as to whether short-term rentals can lose the mantle of โalternative accommodationโ and move more towards a mainstream hospitality choice for business and leisure accommodation bookers alike.”
In addition, RECHARGE promises a focus on providing innovation and โpersonalityโ, structured around debate, workshop and problem solving formats to stimulate collective conversation, collaboration, innovation and value creation to help drive Rechargersโ businesses and the sector forward.
The first day of the event will include new features for 2019, such as an urban expedition through Berlin’s ground breaking hospitality and real estate concepts as well as live apartment escape room competitions, a “secret” private evening event and exploring the city in a unique mode of transport.
Meanwhile, the schedule for the second day at Colonia Nova includes an optional Cold War twist morning jog, an exploring your mind session and “empty chair discussions”, in addition to the business-centred talks throughout the day.
IHM CEO Piers Brown said: “The Serviced Apartment Awards event is always an exciting night in the calendar. Not only is it a great night to celebrate our awards winners and shortlisted guests’ achievements but it also gives over 300+ industry professionals the opportunity to meet, greet and do business with other prestigious figures in the hospitality industry.
“Entering with a view to winning a Serviced Apartment Award increases your brand’s visibility and recognition before, during and after the awards and we look forward to welcoming all of our guests on Thursday 14 March at Park Plaza Riverbank,” he added.
