European Camping Group buys assets of Dutch firm Vacansoleil

UK / France: European Camping Group [ECG], a tour operator specialised in the mobile home holiday market, has announced the strategic acquisition of Dutch camping holiday firm Vacansoleil and its assets, significantly expanding its portfolio in the European outdoor accommodation sector.

The acquisition includes more than 900 mobile homes and 200 safari tents, enhancing ECG’s offering to 45,000 mobile homes across 430+ parks throughout Europe.

After Eindhoven-based Vacansoleil was declared bankrupt four months ago, ECG stepped in to acquire the assets, previously spread across more than 100 campsites. The strategic move introduces four new parks and one new destination country [Slovenia] to the ECG portfolio as a result.

Last February, ECG completed the €1 billion acquisition of French campsite brand Vacanceselect Group – a deal which saw the group triple its campsite portfolio in France, Spain, Italy, Croatia and the Netherlands, making it the largest provider of outdoor accommodation in Europe.

Stijn Depraetere, vice president development and contracting, said: “ECG has successfully negotiated agreements with the majority of sites where Vacansoleil operated, ensuring that our portfolio of distribution brands, including Eurocamp, Homair and Roan will continue to bring these sought-after destinations to the market.

“This means that our customers will have access to a vast choice of destinations for mobile home vacations, all under brands known for their strong reputations, exceptional service levels, and consumer protection that guests have come to expect, aligning with the legacy of Vacansoleil,” added Depraetere.

ECG’s portfolio of brands now include Eurocamp, Camping Vision, Homair, Roan, Canvas Holidays [UK], Vacanceselect [France] and Vacansoleil [the Netherlands]. Moreover, its owned campsite portfolio grew by 100 high-end parks last year, with Tohapi joining its existing Marvilla Parks brand.

In other news, ECG has announced a series of leadership changes.

Sébastien Manceau has been named as Group CEO, current Group CEO Alain Calmé becomes Group chairman, and Philippe de Trémiolles, who had co-led the Group with Calmé since 2010, remains as Group MD and CFO.

Calmé said: “I’m delighted that Sébastien has been appointed CEO and I’m very confident in his ability to lead ECG in this next phase of growth. It’s been an absolute privilege to lead ECG these past 14 years and I am thrilled that I will continue to support the Group in my new role as chairman.”

Manceau said: “I am very committed to continuing Alain’s work and am excited at the opportunity to lead ECG in this new chapter. Despite knowing the Group for some years now, I have been particularly impressed by the quality of its teams since joining last year. I look forward to working with Philippe, and all at ECG as we capitalise on the tremendous opportunity ahead of us.”

de Trémiolles said: “I would like to thank Alain for these successful years of brainstorming and action together and I warmly welcome Sébastien. Changes such as this are always an opportunity to challenge and improve processes and perspectives, and I am very much looking forward to this.”
