Latin America and Africa experiencing Airbnb business traveller boom
Worldwide: Latin America and Africa are seeing the strongest growth in business traveller Airbnb users travelling globally, according to the company.
Current trending destinations across those areas include Mar Del Plata in Argentina, which has seen a 624 per cent year-over-year increase in bookings, Guarujá in Brazil (up by 594 per cent from 2017 to 2018) and Aguascalientes in Mexico (up by 594 per cent in business travel bookings).
Beyond that, other growing popular destinations for business travellers using the Airbnb platform are Gwangju in South Korea, and Pietermaritzburg in South Africa.
Meanwhile, business groups are heading to trending destinations such as Ipoh in Malaysia, Guarujá, Tagaytay in the Philippines, Acapulco in Mexico and Mammoth Lakes in California.
According to data which tracks traditional hotel booking behaviour, business travellers tend to book Airbnb accommodation much closer to their arrival date than leisure travellers — on average 20 days in advance, compared to around 35 days for holidaymakers.
Those travellers from Taiwan, the US and Germany tend to book the furthest in advance on average, while those from France, Norway, and Mexico typically reserve short-term rentals closest to the arrival date, according to Airbnb statistics.
Airbnb adds that such travellers are increasingly building down time into their trips, reflecting the growing “bleisure” trend. This includes booking more Airbnb Experiences such as Secret Paris tours, Lisbon dine-arounds, and walking tours around Toronto.
