Self storage app Neighbor recognised at awards

Utah: Neighbor.com, a self-storage app for the sharing economy, has been recognised as one of Fast Company’s 2019 World Changing Ideas in the Apps category.

The World Changing Ideas award, which has been running for three years, honours businesses, policies, projects and concepts that offer innovative solutions to the issues facing humanity.

A prestigious judging panel selected winners and finalists from a pool of over 2,000 nominees from around the world. Neighbor, which was founded in 2017, will appear alongside the other finalists and award winners in the May edition of the print magazine, which comes out on 16 April.

Neighbor’s platform is aiming to revolutionise self-storage solutions by allowing neighbours to participate in the self-storage economy.

Homeowners and renters can list empty spaces for rent, allowing hosts to receive income of up to $15,000 per year as a result. Meanwhile, local renters can access storage space for half the price of traditional and more expensive storage offerings with the added convenience and safety of using convenient nearby spaces.

Neighbor CEO and co-founder, Joseph Woodbury, said: “What makes us ‘world changing’ is our ability to help everyday people make a meaningful income year after year in a very simple way.

“Our users are paying off their mortgage, student debt and more by listing something as simple as an empty garage, basement, RV pad, or garden shed on our platform. When it comes to the sharing economy, this is about as passive and rewarding as it gets,” he added.

Since receiving venture funding in March 2018, Neighbor has invested in many areas of the platform, particularly in the safety of its users.

Neighbor claims to be the only self-storage company to offer every host property damage and liability protection up to $2 million. For renters, Neighbor provides up to $25,000 in property protection for item storage and both guarantees create a safer, reliable experience at no additional cost to the host or renter.

Woodbury said: “Our goal is to make the storage process as simple, safe and affordable as possible. We are the only players in the industry that are putting real money on the line to guarantee that every renter and host can trust their property and items are protected by us.”
