Vacation rental-themed show debuts on Netflix

US: Netflix is highlighting some of the most desirable short-term and vacation rental locations in the world in its new show, The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals.

With the number of people resuming their travels after a year-long Covid halt increasing, Netflix started airing its new show on 18 June, and it is seeking to promote unique spaces that are available on a short-term rental basis around the world.

The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals is hosted by three individuals who are well versed in travel and real estate.

  • Jo Franco – a travel writer who has travelled to over fifty countries.
  • Megan Batoon – a DIY designer who has a clothing website, a podcast, and a YouTube channel.
  • Luis D. Ortiz – previously been seen on Million Dollar Listing.

The three hosts travel the world together, exploring a variety of rentals in different climates.

Each of the eight episodes in the first season highlights three locations: a unique rental selected by Franco, a budget-friendly option selected by Batoon, and a luxury property selected by Ortiz. The properties ranged from those in the blazing sun to the snowy cold.

The 24 locations featured in the first season include: Bali, Alaska, Montana, Miami, the Caribbean, Finland, Mexico City, the Bahamas, Japan, the Berkshires, Hawaii, and beyond. The rentals took a variety of forms that ranged from a lighthouse to an alpaca farm, and a house made out of bamboo.

The show was primarily filmed after the onset of the pandemic, with only a few locations being filmed in January 2020.

Due to the pandemic, most episodes show the hosts alone, without the presence of other guests. The hosts have expressed that this lack of other guests displays that vacations are possible in a Covid-safe manner.

Batoon said: “I think a well-designed vacation rental can offer people a lot of comfort to know that something can be safe, if they are fearing Covid.”

The show aims to highlight the places where the hosts stayed, rather than their other activities, further diving into the availability of Covid-safe options.

Franco said: “We were in these middle-of-nowhere places having the time of our lives…We can dive into the experience, we can get more secluded, we can feel private and safe.”

The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals comes at a time that is filled with new television listings related to travel. With the Magnolia Network launching in July with a programme of travel-related shows and HGTV renewing two of its own series, more and more options are becoming available for those who want to view shows related to travel.

All eight episodes in the series are available to watch here.
