Stippl raises €575k for AI-driven trip planning curation

Netherlands: Amsterdam-based travel tech startup and social travel platform, Stippl, has announced that it has raised €575,000 in additional funding to curate experiences and travel planning driven by generative AI and accelerate its growth in Europe.

The startup has been backed by Australian venture capital group Marbuck Investments and Dutch early-stage venture capital fund Volve Capital, as it seeks to grow its number of users to more than one million by the end of this year.

Stippl acts as a source for travel and sightseeing information by highlighting different activities, hotspots and hospitality venues at the chosen destinations, including recommendations by other users of the platform.

Travel bloggers, influencers, short-term rentals, hotels and destination marketing organisations [DMOs] can use the platform to market content and increase their following. They can also share their trips, routes, and travel content on the platform to reach a broader target group and generate additional income.

Stippl’s website and app enable users to create, organise and modify their own travel itineraries for trips with friends and / or families. Furthermore, users can find and book their desired accommodation and transport options, making it more of a ‘one-stop shop’ for travel planning capabilities, and catering to the growing demand for hyper-personalised travel.

In addition to serving a range of content creators, Stippl partners with travel agencies, which often still use programs such as Excel, PDFs or inefficient software for trip planning.

The company plans to use the funding to personalise and customise experiences further by leveraging the power of generative AI, as well as introducing new subscription services and personalised photo books to achieve its user base target this year. After launching its all-in-one travel app at the beginning of last year, Stippl has increased its number of users so far to around 250,000 people in 160+ countries.

Stippl co-founder and CEO, Luuk Verhoeven, said: “In the following years, we really want to cement our position as the leading travel app. With Stippl, we intend to enhance the travel experience for all travellers worldwide, from the moment they start planning to reliving their cherished memories.

“This new funding allows us to expand the Stippl team and work towards new heights,” he added.

Joost Bijlsma, partner at Volve Capital, said: “Investing in travel apps means backing the journey of exploration and discovery of their community. Stippl redefines travellers’ experiences, turning aspirations into seamless itineraries.

“Volve Capital is very excited about the future of Stippl, and the opportunities offered by this new release, enabling a one-stop shop for travel planning and discovery,” added Bijlsma.

Founded in 2021, Stippl raised €400,000 in a pre-seed funding round last February, having secured the same amount in another pre-seed raise the previous August. To date, the startup has now received more than €1.3 million in total funding.
