STAAA partners with Sustonica to promote STR sustainability

Australia / Spain: The Short Term Accommodation Association Australia [STAAA], an organisation representing short-term rental stakeholders in Australia, has strategically partnered with Sustonica, which describes itself as “a pioneer in sustainability certification“.

The collaboration marks the first time that an Australian short-term rental association has endorsed a sustainability label, emphasising the growing importance of environmentally responsible practices in the short-term rental sector.

Through this partnership, STAAA wants to demonstrate its commitment to promoting sustainable practices among its members. By recommending the Sustonica sustainability label, STAAA encourages property owners and managers within its network to adopt measures that reduce environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.

The Sustonica label offers a comprehensive assessment of sustainability practices in short-term rentals, focusing on energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, promoting the destination and minimising the negative impact on the community [detailed within the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals]. Properties awarded the label gain recognition for their environmental stewardship, appealing to a growing demographic of eco-conscious travellers.

Keiran Craig-Jones, executive director of STAAA, said: “Partnering with Sustonica aligns perfectly with our mission to support and enhance the short-term rental industry in Australia. This collaboration allows us to offer our members a tangible way to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, setting a new standard in the industry.”

Sustonica CEO Vanessa de Souza Lage said: “We are thrilled to join forces with STAAA. This partnership is a significant step towards mainstreaming sustainable practices in the Australian accommodation sector.

“Together, we can make a real difference in reducing the environmental and social footprint of short-term rentals,” she added.

Sustonica launched officially at the start of 2023, with an aim to recognise and promote environmentally-friendly vacation rentals worldwide.
