Brown resigns as VRMA board chair

US: Dru Brown, the board chair of the Vacation Rental Management Association [VRMA] – the largest vacation rental association in the United States, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

The news comes less than a month after the association’s president and CEO, Kimberly Miles, departed her role in April. At the time, in a StraightFireVR podcast hosted by VTrips CEO Steve Milo, Milo suggested that Miles had been “fired” due to “poor attendance at the New Orleans VRMA Spring, VRMA Houston and VRMA Europe events” and that some vendors were considering boycotts of future VRMA events.

Brown’s resignation was announced in an open letter to VRMA members by VRMA vice chair Michelle Williams, who will step into the role of acting chair during the interim period until a new chair is elected at the next association board meeting on 29 May. The newly elected chair will then serve the remainder of the current term until 17 October, the last day of the VRMA 2024 International Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

In a statement, Brown said: “I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the opportunity to serve VRMA as a board member and chair. It has been an honour and privilege to work with passionate, dedicated colleagues, to get to know many of our members, and to see VRMA evolve and grow.

“I am invested in VRMA’s success, committed to supporting a smooth leadership transition, and am confident that the organisation is positioned for exciting, transformative change in the year ahead,” he added.

In the letter, Williams said that the board was “embracing this change as an important opportunity for us to chart a new path for VRMA” and that its goal is to “cultivate a renewed sense of creativity, innovation and agility that will allow us to seize new opportunities and make a greater impact”. In addition, the board is continuing its search for a new executive director and confirmed that a series of interviews is currently taking place.
