US: Privately owned rental marketplace Zumper has announced a partnership with Airbnb to market Airbnb-friendly rental communities directly on Zumper’s platform.

Airbnb debuted its ‘Airbnb-friendly’ apartments programme in November 2022, providing a listing service exclusively for assets that allow short-term rentals in the United States.

As part of the home-sharing platform’s bit to make hosting more “accessible” to more people, Airbnb is enabling renters to find a place to live and sublet it on Airbnb part time when they are staying away from home, whether it is a single room or a full apartment.

To date, Airbnb has partnered with a number of landlords for the programme, including Equity Residential, Greystar Real Estate Partners LLC.

From now on, all Airbnb-friendly apartments will receive a special badge and filter on Zumper, a first-of-its-kind feature for any ILS [internet listing service].

The partnership is designed to make it easy for renters to find homes from which they can earn extra money from hosting Airbnb stays part-time in their units. Airbnb-friendly rental communities can also elect to earn a share of the revenue from stays as well as have visibility and controls over the number of nights that may be hosted per year, occupancy limits, and more.

The success of the programme can be monitored and analysed using Airbnb tools.

Zumper CEO Anthemos Georgiades said: “Through our partnership with Airbnb, we are excited to usher in a new age of flexible renting to Zumper’s users. Renters will be able to discover multifamily communities on Zumper where they can earn extra income from renting out their unit on Airbnb part-time.

“At the same time, property owners and management companies can empower tenants to host guests responsibly on Airbnb, while also making their community stand out from the pack when renters are considering where to live,” he added.

Jesse Stein, head of Airbnb for Real Estate, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Zumper to bring more renters to Airbnb-friendly apartments. Traditionally, renters haven’t always had an easy time finding a home they could host on Airbnb. That’s why we launched the Airbnb-friendly marketplace and why this partnership with Zumper is so meaningful.

“Everyone should have the opportunity to earn extra income on their space,” he added.

The Airbnb-friendly filter can be found on the filters bar of every city page on Zumper.

Having raised more than $178 million in investment to date, Zumper is on a mission to make renting a home as easy as booking a hotel.
