We talk a lot about the convergence of travel, hospitality and real estate but there is also more blurring occurring between short-term rentals and the burgeoning tours and activities segment. Airbnb’s Experiences program launch – and relaunch this year – could be the start of more short-term rental platforms partnering with tours and activities hosts and providers to drive incremental revenue opportunities, while delivering the unique guest experience they claim to provide. Equally, tours and activities companies may look to diversify in the opposite direction and into accommodation in order to offer a complete end-to-end package that also includes short-term rentals – Intrepid Travel is just one example of this already happening.
We discovered:
- How the short-term rental sector is blurring more with the tours and activities segment
- What Airbnb’s relaunch of its Experiences program tells us
- How operators and hosts can generate more income from tours and activities offerings / partnerships
- Will we see more OTAs expand into Experiences offerings – is it a short-term solution or a long-term vision?
- What trends we will see next
