US: Historic destinations across the US are seeing a surge in short-term rental demand ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, with America250 celebrations helping boost bookings beyond FIFA World Cup host cities.

Data from PriceLabs shows booked nights in Williamsburg, Virginia, have increased 74% year on year, followed by Philadelphia (64%) and Washington, D.C. (53%) as travellers seek destinations hosting events to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Florida destinations are also performing strongly. Miami has recorded a 90% increase in booked nights, supported by both Independence Day travel and the FIFA World Cup match taking place in the city on 3 July. Fort Lauderdale has seen bookings rise 51%, while Orlando is up 60%.

Strong demand is also driving higher average daily rates across several markets. Philadelphia recorded the largest increase, with ADR rising 84% compared with last year, followed by Atlanta (45%), Seattle (42%) and Miami (42%).

PriceLabs said operators in historic destinations are benefiting from increased occupancy and stronger revenue performance as travellers combine holiday celebrations with heritage tourism.

Richie Khandelwal, co-founder and president of PriceLabs, said the combination of America250 events and the Fourth of July falling on a Saturday this year is supporting stronger-than-usual demand, particularly in historic destinations where celebrations are taking place.

The company added that while World Cup host cities continue to attract visitors, the Independence Day holiday is providing a broader demand boost across a wider range of US vacation rental markets.
