Airbnb and Pinterest team up to produce travel guide

Worldwide: Pinterest and Airbnb have teamed up to help Internet users easily and efficiently plan their trips for spring and summer getaways.

Social media platform Pinterest said it wanted to “help users master the daunting task of trip planning” and “spark inspiration and help you discover new places to go”.

The online guide includes travel insights for all types of travellers, including nature lovers, space travel, and everything in between:

Getting back to your roots:

Pinterest searches for nature travel went up by 88 per cent in January compared with January 2018, while in March, Airbnb searches were up 539 per cent year-over-year for nature, 367 per cent for meditation and 655 per cent for hiking.

Out-of-this-world experiences:

Searches for space travel on Pinterest increased by 70 per cent in January compared with the same month in 2018, while Airbnb said it has almost 3,000 homes listed that are equipped with telescopes.

Calling all thrill seekers:

Pinterest searches for adventure travel rose by 693 per cent in January compared to January 2018, including swimming holidays (up 260 per cent year-over-year), abandoned amusement parks (185 per cent), cave diving (143 per cent) and surprise destinations (192 per cent).

Airbnb said it also sees more searches for adventure- and passion-based travel, adding that it teamed up with the World Surf League in 2016 to provide around 10,000 surfing-related experiences worldwide.

A good bargain:

Searches for budget travel on Pinterest were up 64 per cent year-on-year in January. According to Airbnb internal data, cities such as Bologna (Italy), Busan (South Korea), Ottawa (Ontario), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Bali (Indonesia) have an average per-night cost for bookings below $75.

Thinking green:

Searches for sustainable travel on Pinterest increased by 56 per cent from January through September 2018 compared with the same period in the previous year.

Puppy-friendly pads:

Pinterest searches for dog-friendly vacations were up by 146 per cent in January compared with January 2018, while Airbnb said it has more than 1.3 million pet-friendly listings across the globe.

From chilly winter to tropical chilling:

Airbnb said destinations seeing the most year-over-year growth in bookings for 1 March through to 29 April are: Monterrey, Mexico (678 per cent); Carolina, Puerto Rico (643 per cent); Santos, Brazil (432 per cent); San Juan, Puerto Rico (392 per cent); and Dapa, Philippines (380 per cent).

Pinterest also said searches in January for cold to warm travel outfits were up 152 per cent year-over-year.
