Airbnb partners with Dettol maker RB to protect community

Worldwide: Airbnb has announced a partnership with RB, the makers of cleaning supplies and disinfectant brand Dettol, allowing hosts in more than 20 countries to buy RB product bundles and reassure guests about their safety standards.

The partnership has gone live in more than 20 countries, including the UK, US, China, Brazil and India, where hosts in those countries will be able to order RB products such as hand sanitisers, antibacterial sprays and surface wipes from their own account dashboard on Airbnb. The products will be available in two separate bundles: Turnover Kits [for hosts] and Welcome Kits [for guests].

Airbnb director of community, Dorothy Kilroy, said: “Cleanliness remains top of mind for people looking to travel and host safely, and our partnership with RB allows us to support hosts by making cleaning products more readily available. The Dettol brand is a household name and the cleaning bundles along with our Covid-19 Safety practices, will help provide more peace of mind to hosts and guests.”

Rahul Kadyan, executive vice president of global business solutions at RB, said: “Protecting people from illness by establishing better hygiene practices as a foundation for health is core to the RB purpose. Our brands are built on trust, scientific efficacy and our desire to educate consumers around the world to help break the chain of infection.

‘We are excited to partner with Airbnb to help drive the highest standards in hygiene and give consumers the confidence to enjoy their stay at homes offered by hosts on Airbnb,” added Kadyan.

The Turnover Kits and Welcome Kits will feature discounted Dettol-branded products that have been developed to “kill 90 per cent of bacteria and viruses, including coronavirus [SARS-COV-2]” for more than 80 years.

Airbnb launched its own Enhanced Cleaning Protocol initiatives in April, before officially releasing a 38-page handbook in June, advising hosts how to specifically clean and sanitise their properties. The initiatives, which include a five-step enhanced cleaning process, have been endorsed by RB’s team of scientists and experts following reviews of the cleaning and disinfection guidance issued to hosts and guests.

Joe Rubino, director of research and development at RB, said: “RB’s 100-plus years of experience in virology and microbiology give our team the expertise to help ensure that cleaning and disinfection protocols meet a high standard of care as individuals look for safe ways to travel again. Through proactive testing and emerging pathogen surveillance, our team of experts will closely monitor new data as it emerges to contribute to continued protection for guests and hosts.”

More recently, Airbnb announced it was enforcing its Covid-19 health and safety practices to protect the wellbeing of its communities. Hosts and guests are now required to wear a mask and socially distance when following the enhanced cleaning process in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Airbnb and RB aim to extend their partnership to 40 countries by the end of the year.
