US: Vacation reservation website Booking.com announced the winners of tis Traveler Review Awards revealing the eight US municipalities best for hospitality.

The destinations might not be what you expect — no major cities appear on the list. Instead, it is almost fully populated by cities of under 50,000 residents, emphasising comfort and charm over a more high-octane experience.

In order, they are: Fredericksburg, Texas; Palm Desert, California; Cape May, New Jersey; Broken Bow, Oklahoma; Waikoloa, Hawaii; Bryson City, North Carolina; Snowmass Village, Colorado; and Oakhurst, California.

Palm Desert is the largest on the list by a significant margin, but most fall under 5,000 year-round residents.

Booking.com used guest reviews to determine the winners, before ranking the destinations proportionally by their share of award-winning accommodations.

Cape May, Broken Bow, Waikoloa and Oakhurst all made returns to the list from last year’s edition, while Fredericksburg, Palm Desert, Bryson City and Snowmass Village made it for the first time.

Highlights:

  • Booking.com’s list of the eight most welcoming U.S. destinations is exclusively composed of smaller municipalities, with most having under 50,000 residents and several under 5,000.
  • Many of the selected locations, including Bryson City, North Carolina and Snowmass Village, Colorado, are primarily noted for their outdoor offerings and charm over urban amenities.
  • The ranking was determined by analysing guest reviews and proportionally ranking destinations based on their share of award-winning accommodations on the platform.
  • Four destinations — Cape May, Broken Bow, Waikoloa and Oakhurst — are repeat honorees from the previous year’s list.
