US: Expedia Group has confirmed it is restructuring parts of its organisation, a move that is expected to involve further layoffs.

The global travel technology company did not disclose further details about the number of employees affected or specific areas impacted by the changes.

Expedia group said the changes are part of a broader effort to sharpen its focus on strategic priorities and position the business for long-term growth.

A spokesperson for the company said: “As part of a broader effort to strengthen our business and position the company for long-term growth, we are restructuring parts of our organisation. These decisions are difficult but necessary as we hone our focus on strategic priorities and remain well-positioned to deliver for customers and partners.”

The move follows an earlier round of layoffs last month, although the company again declined to confirm numbers. In March, an Expedia Group spokesperson said: “To ensure the best traveler experience, we must continually adapt to the evolving needs of our industry and travellers.

“This requires difficult but necessary decisions such as refining our marketing strategies, improving efficiencies, and reallocating resources to areas with the greatest business impact to drive customer engagement.”

In February 2024, Expedia Group announced up to 1,500 job cuts as part of a wider company reshaping.

Expedia is not the only travel company to be making structural changes. In November 2024, Booking Holdings, parent company of Booking.com, announced organisational changes expected to save up to $450 million (£361 million) annually.

Highlights:

  • Expedia Group is restructuring parts of the business to sharpen focus on strategic growth.
  • The company confirmed new layoffs but did not disclose the number of roles affected.
  • The move follows previous layoffs in March and February 2024, when up to 1,500 jobs were cut.
