US: Hipcamp has partnered with the Sierra Club to list a number of the organisation’s historic cabins and backcountry huts on its booking platform.
The partnership makes several Sierra Club properties in the Tahoe region available to book online, including Clair Tappaan Lodge, Hutchinson Lodge and four backcountry huts. According to the Sierra Club, listing the properties on Hipcamp is intended to improve visibility and support the long-term maintenance of the cabins and huts.
The move comes ahead of the winter season and follows a period of reduced visitor access during the pandemic.
The properties, many of which were built in the 1920s and 1930s, are located around Donner Summit and the wider Tahoe area. They provide access to nearby ski resorts as well as backcountry terrain and hiking routes, including sections of the Pacific Crest Trail.
Seasonal access varies across the portfolio. While Clair Tappaan Lodge and Hutchinson Lodge can be reached by road throughout the year, the backcountry huts require multi-mile approaches by foot or ski during the winter months.
