Indie Campers launches in the UK
UK: Portuguese online marketplace and road trip platform, Indie Campers, has announced the launch of its peer-to-peer rental platform in the UK.
With more than nine years of experience as a campervan rental fleet operator and close to 3000 vehicles under management in Europe and the United States, Indie Campers has experienced an explosion of demand for campervan travel since launching its own peer-to-peer rental model in the summer of 2021. Since its inception, the newly launched marketplace has received more than 20,000 booking requests from travellers across Europe in just over six months.
Just like on home-sharing websites such as Airbnb, campervan owners can create an account and list their vehicles on the marketplace in a few clicks.
“Indie” is designed to give owners total control over who rents their motorhome by requiring them to approve a traveller’s booking request. If approved, travellers pay through Indie Camper’s secure booking system to keep both parties safe.
Motorhome and campervan owners across Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man will now be able to leverage the growing demand for outdoor and campervan holidays on the platform and rent out their vehicle with confidence. Indie Campers claims that owners can earn up to £29,000 a year through renting out their vehicle.
The company also recently announced a partnership with Riverside Insurance that will offer liability insurance, theft protection, comprehensive insurance and roadside assistance to owners’ vehicles when rented out on the peer-to-peer platform. The insurance will be automatically integrated with every rental.
Pierre Everling, VP marketplace at Indie Campers, said: “The demand for RV travel in the UK is booming. We have experienced an increase of searches of more than 60 per cent on our UK platform since last year.
“For the past few months, we have been working hard to make this demand available to private campervan owners in the market. We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Riverside and the official launch of our peer-to-peer marketplace in the UK. We believe it will become one of our largest markets within months,” he added.
To hire out their campervan with Indie Campers, owners will need a form of ID and a primary insurance policy certificate, so that they can set up an insurance and rental contract with Indie Campers, which is stored digitally within the platform.
Now aggregating over 3000 of its own vehicles, in addition to the campervans and motorhomes of individual and professional hosts, Indie Campers is aiming to become the number one road trip provider in the world by expanding rapidly. The company now operates across the United States and 15 European countries, including Germany, France, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Croatia, and Iceland.
