US: The city of South Lake Tahoe has adopted an amended ordinance to its vacation home rental [VHR] regulations, with changes set to take effect from 17 July.
Key updates include the introduction of a 150-foot buffer zone between single-family VHR properties located outside designated tourist core areas.
Ahead of the changes, an initial application window will open for operators in good standing whose VHR permits at the same properties were not renewed in 2021, as well as for Qualified Vacation Home Rental [QVHR] permit holders whose licences were voided in April 2025 due to the implementation of Measure T.
Measure T, passed in 2018, introduced a series of restrictions on VHRs within residential neighbourhoods, including phasing out certain permits.
From 17 July, new applications will be accepted from all prospective permit holders.
The South Lake Tahoe City Council has scheduled a meeting for 9 September to evaluate the impact of the amended ordinance.
