Musa Tariq joins Airbnb in experiences marketing role

United States: Musa Tariq, a former chief brand officer at Ford, has joined Airbnb as its head of marketing experiences, a newly-created role.

Tariq left Ford in March after 15 months at the company and has since worked as an advisor for a number of businesses.

He joined Ford in January 2017 from Apple, where he had previously been global marketing and communication director for Apple Retail since August 2014. Before that, he spent two years at Nike as global senior director of social media and continuity in marketing.

Starting his career in consulting with Deloitte, Tariq later moved to advertising with J Walter Thompson London, where he was the global senior account manager. His first brand marketing role was with Burberry before he moved to Portland to join Nike.

Joe Zadeh, vice-president of experiences at Airbnb, said: “Musa has had an impressive career spanning some of the world’s biggest brands and this wealth of experience will be invaluable to the experiences team as we continue to build awareness and popularise this area of the business.”

Tariq said: “I have always admired the company’s mission to belong anywhere and this exciting part of the business unlocks a completely new opportunity to continue to deliver on that promise.

“I am excited to join the rapidly growing experiences business and help more and more hosts turn their passions into unique guided activities that create enduring magical memories for our guests,” he added.

Airbnb’s chief marketing officer position has been vacant since late 2017, after Jonathan Mildenhall left the company to found his own brand consultancy, TwentyFirstCenturyBrand.

In January, Mildenhall’s exit was followed by that of global marketing director Alexandra Dimiziani, who has since emerged as Mildenhall’s agency co-founder.
