Norway / Sweden: Swedish camping and motorhome rental platform, Acamp, has been acquired by Norwegian competitor Campio to create “the leading Nordic platform for camping and motorhome tourism”.
All existing hosts and users of Acamp will be moved over to the Campio platform with immediate effect from today [4 December], including their usernames and passwords. The merger will then lead to the creation of a joint platform in the new year, which will debut with half a million users from the beginning.
Existing Acamp campers will now receive a welcome gift of 1000 Campio points, which can be redeemed at Campio’s Point Shop to claim rewards.
The total financial investment in the transaction has not been disclosed.
Paul Berggren, CEO of Acamp, said: “It is exciting that Acamp will now become part of Campio. With Campio’s well-established operations, there are fantastic opportunities to create even greater value for our users.”
Campio CEO Yngve Øye Løkås said: “By acquiring Acamp, Campio has consolidated its position as a leading player in the Nordic camping market. This merger represents an important step in our ambition to drive consolidation of the industry in the Nordics and Europe.”
Founded in 2020 with the idea to solve frustrations related to the booking of traditional campsites, Stockholm-based Acamp raised €2.5 million in funding in February 2022 to accelerate its expansion in the Norwegian and Danish markets, with backing from the likes of Spintop Ventures, LRF Ventures and Centripetal Capital. A month later, the travel tech startup purchased German motorhome site Ställplatser.
According to breakit.se, Acamp had a turnover of SEK 456,000 [€39,500] last year, while making a loss of just over SEK 13 million [just over €1,125,468] over the same period.
