Airbnb appoints Hegde to top marketing role

US: Airbnb has appointed former Groupon CMO Vinayak Hegde as lead of global growth marketing.

Hegde has nearly two decades of marketing experience at Amazon and more recently, at Groupon, where he was senior vice president and global CMO. he will be based in Airbnb’s new Seattle office.

“I’m thrilled for our company and our global community that Vinayak Hegde is joining Airbnb,” said Greg Greeley, president of Homes. “His expertise in global performance marketing will have a huge impact in bringing the benefits of the Airbnb-way of travelling to guests around the world.”

Airbnb also announced the hire of former eBay, PayPal and Skype executive Laura Chambers, who will serve as the general manager of homes hosts, overseeing the company’s relationship with the hosts who use its platform. Chambers will be based in the company’s San Francisco headquarters.

Airbnb’s former CMO Jonathan Mildenhall and global marketing director Alexandra Dimiziani recently launched their own creative consultancy, called Twenty First Century Brand.
