US: San Francisco-based Airbnb is growing its presence in Portland by taking up occupancy of an open concept space, which will become the company’s newest headquarters.
The firm’s footprint in the city will grow to 63,000 square feet with the space agreement at 38 Davis, a six-storey mixed-use asset in the Old Town district of downtown Portland. The company plans to take occupancy of the open concept space in the 124,000-square-foot building by the autumn.
The recently-constructed, LEED Gold-certified building incorporates cross-laminated timber, with four floors of commercial space beneath 65 apartments. The space is located near to Airbnb’s current plot in the Blagen Block building on Northwest First Avenue.
Airbnb regards the city as its North American Operational Headquarters, which accommodates around 400 employees in departments such as community support, trust, engineering, data science, experiences and Airbnb for Work.
Airbnb’s Darin Evenson told the Portland Business Journal: “Portland’s strong talent pool and passionate home-sharing community drew us to open our North American Operational Headquarters in Old Town in 2014, and as Airbnb’s global footprint has grown, our Portland team has grown with it.”
