Airbnb unveils top ten trending UK destinations in 2021
UK: Airbnb has unveiled the top ten trending destinations in the UK, ahead of what is expected to be a bumper summer for staycations with international travel plans still in doubt.
The latest list is based on year-on-year search growth of destinations compared to the same time a year ago, in the early stages of the global lockdowns.
It will come as little surprise that rural leisure destinations are trending higher than urban locations, even if some of the traditionally popular towns and cities have missed out on the top ten ahead of this year’s peak summer season.
According to Airbnb, Saint Clears in Pembrokeshire, Wales, was the destination that saw the highest rise in searches by Brits for this summer, ahead of the likes of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire and Clovelly in Devon, as southern England dominated the top ten. However, places such as Bournemouth [Dorset] and St Ives in Cornwall were the most high-profile omissions from the list.
The full list is as follows:
- Saint Clears, Pembrokeshire
- Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire
- Clovelly, Devon
- Bosham, West Sussex
- Primrose Valley, Yorkshire
- Mullion, Cornwall
- Cawsand, Cornwall
- Noss Mayo, Devon
- Saunton, Devon
- East Wittering, West Sussex
Amanda Cupples, Airbnb’s general manager for Northern Europe, said: “Our trending destinations show that travel this year is likely to be a little different, with many using a summer closer to home to explore lesser-known rural destinations in addition to the well-loved favourites.”
Self-catered accommodation [cottages / holiday lets] will be allowed to reopen for single households to book overnight stays away from home in the UK from Monday 12 April as part of the UK Government’s strategy to safely ease lockdown restrictions over the coming months. Meanwhile, hotels and B&Bs will have to wait until 17 May at the earliest to reopen their doors, under the government’s latest plans.
