Airbnb partners with Tripadivsor to scale experiences

Reading Time: 2 minutes

US: Airbnb has partnered with Tripadvisor Group in an effort to bring a selection of Tripadvisor experiences to the Airbnb platform later this year.

The companies did not disclose how many products would be included in the partnership or which destinations would initially be covered.

Tripadvisor offers approximately 425,000 experiences globally through its tours and activities business, which includes Viator.

Kristin Dorsett, general manager of Experiences at Tripadvisor Group, said: “Experiences are at the heart of great travel.

“Helping travellers discover and book the world’s best things to do is our focus, and we’re proud to partner with Airbnb to bring the world’s best things to do to more travellers.”

The agreement forms part of Airbnb’s plans to increase the scale of its Experiences business following its relaunch alongside Airbnb Services in May 2025.

During Airbnb’s second-quarter earnings call, co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky said the platform had added 1,000 experiences across its most popular categories during the quarter. This increased supply by almost 80 per cent year on year.

Chesky said bookings had grown both year on year and compared with the previous quarter, although Experiences remained a small part of Airbnb’s overall business.

Airbnb is initially concentrating its expansion on a limited number of markets before introducing the offering more widely.

Chesky described the approach as a “one, to ten, to many” strategy, similar to the method used to expand Airbnb’s accommodation business.

He said: “We are on the tens of markets, where we’re seeing quite high growth.

“Experiences will grow very quickly when we take that and industrialise it to thousands of markets, and that’s not this year.”

Airbnb has also sought to increase demand for Experiences beyond guests booking accommodation through its platform. In November 2025, the company said almost half of Experience bookings were not linked to an Airbnb stay.

Its May 2026 product update included plans to introduce exclusive activities and experiences led by content creators, which Airbnb said could attract both travellers and local residents.

The Tripadvisor agreement gives Airbnb access to additional activities supplied by an established third-party marketplace, rather than relying solely on experiences recruited directly to its platform.

For property managers, Airbnb’s expansion into activities could create further opportunities to connect accommodation with in-destination spending. However, the companies have not said whether hosts or property managers will be able to package, recommend or earn revenue from the Tripadvisor-supplied products.

Tripadvisor has also expanded the distribution of its experiences inventory through other companies. Viator recently became Google’s first connected travel-experiences app within Gemini, while its content has previously been integrated with Frontier Airlines, Uber and Booking.com.
