Worldwide: HomeToGo, the world’s largest vacation rental search engine, has unveiled its list of the top trending destinations for this year’s summer season, according to year-on-year searches.
One conclusion to extrapolate from the survey is that American travellers are becoming increasingly attracted to the prospect of long-haul adventure travel when it comes to summer vacations, judging by the destinations on the list.
Half of the top 12 trending destinations for summer 2019 are situated in Europe, while three are located in North America — including the Blue Ridge Mountains, which saw the highest increase in searches of 839 per cent. Meanwhile, Africa, Asia and South America each have one destination from their continents in the top 12.
To calculate the year-on-year search increases, HomeToGo examined its own company metasearch data, comparing searches from the first five months of 2019 to the same time period in 2018. The findings show that the top 12 trending destinations for 2019 are:
