OYO Hotels & Homes partners with Sabre Hospitality Solutions

Singapore: Rapidly-growing hospitality chain OYO has partnered with Sabre Hospitality to connect its properties with travel agents.

Through Sabre’s GDS connectivity solutions, powered by its SynXis platform, OYO will have access to a network of over 900,000 agents.

In a press release, OYO global chief strategy officer Mandiner Gulati said: “Asset owners are the backbone of our business at OYO and we believe that this partnership will immensely help owners generate additional demand for the properties and widen their reach.”

In the agreement, OYO will be able to connect to Sabre’s GDS, the largest in the world, providing them with new opportunities. This will allow them to connect with corporations for RFP contracting and create incremental revenue increases.

Frank Tampert, managing director and chief commercial officer at Sabre spoke of the partnership: “With this announcement, we are enabling a new distribution model for OYO, increasing their exposure to global markets in addition to supporting travel agents as they aim to cater to their customers’ ever-changing needs.”

OYO has been in headlines recently with concerns about the longevity of its hotel business model. They have recently laid off thousands of employees in the core markets of India and China, claiming a desire to cut back on their expenses.

The company has announced a severance package for these employees, including pay and medical. They have also committed to changing their business attitudes in the new year, namely cutting back on expenses.

The company has recently expanded in the European vacation homes industry, purchasing @leisure last May for a reported sum of €415 million. They also appointed a new COO of operations, Raj Kamal, to oversee their new enterprise.

With business seemingly stalling for the billion-dollar start-up, the partnership with Sabre may provide OYO an opportunity to build new business without additional rapid expenditure.
