Denmark: Danish premium holiday home rental platform Landfolk has announced the launch of Daisy, its “groundbreaking” new visual search engine designed to help users find their dream destination for their next holiday.
With Daisy, users will be able to search for any emotion, vibe or dream – whether it’s a “cosy cabin by the lake” or a “bedroom with a view” – and immediately explore a selection of photos that match their vision. Each image is linked to a bookable holiday home, and clicking on an image reveals associated photos, allowing for endless discovery.
Landfolk wants Daisy to have the same simplicity and intuition as Pinterest, at a time when it believes that the travel industry has been too focused on facts and amenities in recent years.
Chris Sørensen, co-founder and CTO at Landfolk, said: “Daisy represents our first step into a new world, where AI and machine learning transform how users discover and book their perfect holiday home. By using advanced models that can compare and understand both images and text, we are offering people an entirely new way to search based on emotions, moods, and creative ideas.
“In other words, Daisy gives users the freedom to search openly, and we surface the homes that match what they’re imagining,” he added.
Sørensen believes that Daisy can also unlock a host of other opportunities for guests and Landfolk itself.
He continued: “As we move forward, we’ll build on this machine learning foundation to further refine and enhance the discovery and booking experience — such as identifying the best seasonal cover photos or even curating unique collections of holiday homes. We also believe this technology will assist us internally, making it easier to acquire new homes that match Landfolk’s unique vibe, and to sort images according to customer preferences.”
In July, the company completed a €10.3 million Series A funding round, led by EIFO with participation from existing investor SEED Capital and Heartland. As it continues on its current trajectory, Landfolk revealed that it would use the investment to accelerate its market expansion, bolster its product innovation and brand-building efforts, and forge itself as a leading lifestyle brand in the vacation rental market, with close ties to the burgeoning trend of mental wellness.
Founded in 2021 by seven co-founders [all of whom previously worked at Airbnb], Landfolk’s platform currently features more than 3,000 handpicked holiday homes with nature on their doorstep. Users can currently book homes across Scandinavia and Germany, but the company plans to expand to southern European markets “in the near future”.
