Italy: Danish premium holiday home rental platform Landfolk has purchased Danitalia.com to expand into Italy, representing the company’s first-ever acquisition.

The milestone acquisition adds more than 130 holiday homes, villas and apartments in Italy to Landfolk’s growing portfolio, across Tuscany, Umbria and Sicily. It also signifies a major step towards the company’s vision to create exceptional holiday home experiences across Europe.

Along with the acquisition, Landfolk has announced that Elisabeth Hjorth, founder of Danitalia, will be its new country manager of Italy.

Landfolk CEO Christian Schwarz Lausten said: “We’re delighted to welcome Danitalia to the Landfolk family and to take our first step into the Italian market. Italy has always been a dream destination for travellers, including our own guests, who have shown a clear interest in authentic and unique Italian homes.

“This acquisition not only brings Italy into our portfolio but also marks an exciting moment for Landfolk as we explore mergers and acquisitions as a strategic growth lever. Together with Elisabeth, we’re excited to build something extraordinary in Italy,” he added.

Italy is Landfolk’s first market expansion outside of Northern Europe. The platform already featured more than 3,000 handpicked holiday homes in nature across Scandinavia and Germany prior to the Danitalia purchase.

Elisabeth Hjorth, founder of Danitalia.com, said: “I am incredibly excited to join Landfolk as country manager for Italy. Landfolk’s vision of building a community of hosts and guests who value quality and personality resonates deeply with the way we’ve always worked at Danitalia.

“I look forward to bringing the magic of Italy to more travellers while introducing our amazing Italian hosts to the Landfolk community,” she added.

Landfolk was founded in 2021 by seven co-founders, all of whom had previously worked at Airbnb. Last year, the Danish company raised €10.3 million in a Series A funding round in July and in October, it launched its “groundbreaking” new visual search engine called Daisy to help users find their dream destination for their next holiday.
